Holistic Health Event for Women at St. Peter’s University Hospital Aug. 3; to Benefit Elijah’s Promise

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Nationally known sleep expert Dr. Carol Ash will be among the featured speakers at an evening dedicated to women’s health at St. Peter’s University Hospital from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 3.

The event is part of the Wellness Project, which aims to educate and empower women to enhance their health through a holistic approach to well-being. Topics include fitness, meditation, sleep and technology. Admission is $35 per person, which includes refreshments.

All proceeds will support Elijah’s Promise’s Community Soup Kitchen, which serves more than 100,000 meals annually to persons in need in New Brunswick. To register, go online to elijahspromise.org.

Ash, a doctor of osteopathy, is a board-certified general internist and fellowship-trained pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine specialist. She is currently in practice at Meridian Health New Jersey, and is nationally recognized for her appearances on the Today show, Good Morning America, CNN, The Weather Channel, MSNBC, Nightline, the Dr. Oz show and others to discuss the importance of sleep. She will present a talk on “Sleep, the Pursuit of Happiness and Your Dreams.”

Abby Kelly, a board-certified physical therapist and founding member of the Women’s Health Clinic at New York University Rusk Institute for Physical Rehabilitation will moderate the event. She served as director of programs for the WEForum, a female-led organization dedicated to educating and empowering women to promote wellness and prevention of chronic diseases in their communities.

Also speaking will be Dr. Nidhi Kumar, whose lecture is entitled “(Endurance + Mindfulness) x Forgiveness: A formula for wellness.” Kumar is a board-certified cardiologist and general internist affiliated with St. Peter’s University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. She also practices in East Brunswick and is an assistant clinical professor of medicine at Rutgers Medical School.

Paula Cabrera-Ureña will speak on “Technology Bytes for Health and Wellness.” She has more than 25 years of experience in information technology and currently is a member of Enterprise Services at Bristol-Myers Squib. She is a leader in the Collaboration and Personal Productivity organization.

Dr. Tracy Zivin-Tutela will speak on “Love in the Time of Zika.” She is a board-certified infectious diseases specialist with a private practice in Monroe, where she was raised. Zivin-Tutela was medical director of Westside Infectios Diseases as well as director of transplant infectious diseases at St. Luke’s-Rosevelt Hospital Center. She has appeared on NBC Nightly News, the Dr. Oz show, Good Morning America and in print media. She was awarded the Super Doctors Rising Stars distinction.

Susan Boraie, who left the financial services industry in New York City to pursue her passion in health and fitness, will present a mini-barre class for participants. She is a Lululemon Ambassador and owner of Pure Barre Manalapan, where she teaches clients to connect mind and body during her classes to promote a transformed physique and cleared head.
