LA Fitness Lockers Burglarized

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - A report by alert employees led to the arrest of a suspect in several robberies at the LA Fitness gym on Route 18.

On April 10, 2017 employees of LA Fitness, 341 Rt. 18, observed Manuel Flores, 45, of  South Amboy, enter the gym.  The employees recognized him as a possible suspect in thefts from lockers in the past and they notified the East Brunswick Police.

Ptl. Matthew Unkel responded and after speaking to Flores, Unkel arrested him for an outstanding burglary warrant out of East Brunswick.  The warrant was based on an investigation by Detective Chris Farrace in which Flores was identified as having committed a November 2016 theft from an LA Fitness locker in which he used the victim’s key fob to burglarize his vehicle parked in the gym lot.

Det. Joseph Bauer was assigned to investigate the latest incident, and his investigation resulted in a charge for Possession of Burglar Tools against Flores for possessing a screwdriver.  On April 11, 2017, an additional victim responded to EBPD and reported that his lock had been broken off of his locker at the gym and cash was stolen.  The cash matched the denominations possessed by Flores during his arrest.  Det. Bauer signed an additional charge of Theft against Flores.  Flores was remanded to the MCACC on the outstanding burglary warrant.
