EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - East Brunswick High School's Lady Bears girl's soccer team dominated the field Thursday against the Knights of Old Bridge High School. The girls showed strong chemistry and balance throughout the game, dominating the first half en route to a convincing 4-0 victory.
An early scare was thwarted by Lady Bears goalie Alex Kalafor, and off of that save, it was like a switch got flipped for the Lady Bears, as they sprang into action from that point on. Senior Sydney Rosa scored a brilliant goal with multiple defenders draping her, and then two minutes later, Rosa scored again, giving the Bears fans in attendance a thrill, and the Lady Bears a 2-0 lead.
Not two minutes later, Carla LaRocca continued the assault, as she was able to break away from defenders and score to make it 3-0, and a minute after that, LaRocca scored again, giving the Lady Bears the 4-0 lead that they took into Halftime.
The second half was a chance for the Lady Bears to show off their defense, as Laura Chwatel, Jillian Joseph, Julia Simeos, and Kaitlyn Roughan stood tall in front of goalies Alex Kalafor and, in the later minutes, her replacement, Gabrielle Benzillo. The Knights never came close to threatening to score, and the game ended a 4-0 victory.
The Lady Bears raised their record to 4-2, and 3-1 in the Greater MIddlesex Conference Red Division. It seems clear that the class of the league are the Lady Bears and the Vikings of South Brunswick, and they Lady Bears still have a rematch ahead to avenge their only conference loss, their 1-0 opening defeat at the hands of the Vikings (5-0, 7-0 overall).
