SPOTSWOOD, NJ - A borough kitty safely returned home on his own last Thursday, making for a very happy holiday weekend for his family. Oreo slipped away from his Adirondack Avenue home on the evening of March 18 and was missing for 11 days.
The Gregory family hung lost cat signs on the street surrounding their Spotswood home and took to social media to help locate the white cat with a large black spot on his head. With a lack of sightings and an absence of phone calls reporting him found, everyone feared the worst, especially since Oreo was on his own during the last March nor'easter. In the end, it was Oreo himself who turned up in the garage of his home on March 29.
The Gregory's had been leaving the garage door open, making a trap for the kitty with food and water in the hope that he might find his way home.
"We are thrilled," Suzanne Gregory said of Oreo's return. "He is doing wonderful, adjusting way better than I thought."
Gregory was also thankful for the support the family received when Oreo went missing from friends, neighbors and the community.
