MCIA Hosts Free Golf Day on March 24: Registered golfers are invited to come see what’s new at Middlesex County’s golf courses

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Registered golfers are invited to join us at any one of Middlesex County’s three golf courses on Friday, March 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a Free Golf Day.  All greens fees will be waived for golfers who register as a member prior to or on the day of the event.

The event is also the perfect time to see the extensive improvements that have been completed over the past year.

The courses are in the process of major renovations including tree removal, clearing of rough areas, new approaches to the tees, pins, flags and hazard markers. Additional experienced groundskeeper staff and expertise provided by the Rutgers University Turf Management team will help insure the greens and fairways are in great condition this season.

The course clubhouses are being renovated, and new golf carts will welcome the golfers, allowing for greater comfort and convenience during play. Immediate, short term and long term renovations are highlighted in story boards located in each golf course clubhouse. New food and beverage vendors have been hired for all courses.

“The Middlesex County Improvement Authority is proud and pleased to announce new improvements to our county courses,” said MCIA Executive Director H. James Polos. The MCIA operates the County courses. “Our aim is to provide you with the same quality of play you’d expect at a private establishment while delivering affordable rates that only a public course can extend.”

“Our County golf courses are enjoyed by residents and visitors alike,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “We’re so grateful for their continued support, and thrilled to be able to offer these upgrades.”

Freeholder Deputy Director Charles E. Tomaro, liaison to the MCIA, said: “So much has been done to bring these new and exciting changes to our County golf courses, and we are all very proud of the results. I hope many golfers will test out the improvements for themselves this season.”

Golfers must be registered in order to participate. Registration enables golfers to book tee times in advance and take advantage of all membership discounts for the remainder of 2017.  Registration rates range between $30 and $45, depending on residency. Discounts are available for eligible seniors, students, veterans and the physically challenged.

Register in person at one of the three courses listed below. Pre-registration is recommended for individuals who would like to book a tee time prior to the event.

The event will take place weather permitting.  Please call the course you would like to play prior to the event to make sure conditions are suitable.

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote (Random House, 1965)

In Cold Blood is, quite simply, the grand-daddy of true crime writing, dubbed by Capote, himself, as the first non-fiction novel (although Norman Mailer argued the point when he published The Executioner's Song in 1979.) The conditions under which I read In Cold Blood for the first time were pretty weird, which was another ...
