"Pit Stop" Owner Arrested on Major Drug Charges

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ -  Following a 2-month long investigation by the East Brunswick Police Department, a convenience store owner in East Brunswick has been arrested and charged with several drug offenses, including Distribution in a School Zone, a crime which can carry a a prison sentence and a fine of up to $150,000.

According to a report issued by the EBPD today, the East Brunswick Police Anti-Crime Unit and members of the Investigative Division executed a search warrant on May 18, 2017 at the Pit Stop convenience store, 234 Old Stage Road, after a 2-month investigation. 

The shop owner, Utkarsh Makwana, 26, of Monroe, NJ, had been selling marijuana, edible marijuana gummies, THC cigars, THC vapes and hashish wax out of the convenience store.  The Pit Stop is located on a school bus route and is close to Spotswood High School and Schoenly Primary School.

Makwana was arrested and charged with multiple counts of Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in a School Zone. 

During the course of the investigation, Makwana was also found to be in possession of a stun gun.  In addition to $3,300 cash seized, approximately $5,000 worth of marijuana, THC oils, edible marijuana gummies and hashish wax were seized as was approximately $10,000 worth of drug paraphernalia. 

During the execution of the search warrant, two individuals, Mohamed Fquihi, 19 of Parlin, NJ and Kyle Toson, 19 of North Brunswick, were arrested for Possession of Marijuana while in the parking lot of the convenience store.

As with all cases, persons arrested and charged have not yet been proven guilty of any crime.
