WEST WINDSOR, NJ – A West Windsor man is facing a death by auto charge among several others including DWI following a three-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon that killed a Parlin motorcyclist, police said.

According to West Windsor police, the accident took place just after 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon when a 2013 Mercedes Benz, operated by Ram R. Thatigutla, 50, of West Windsor, was traveling southbound in the left lane of Quakerbridge Road and hit the rear of a 2016 Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 48-year-old female from Lawrenceville.

After that collision, Thatigutla then hit a 55-year-old man, from the Parlin section of Sayreville, on his 2013 Yamaha XV1, killing him, police said.

The Sonata and motorcycle were both stopped in the center lane for a traffic signal, according to police.

Police said that Thatigutla exited his vehicle moments after the crash and tried to flee southbound on Quakerbridge Road on foot.

According to police, he got several hundred feet down the road before collapsing on the concrete center median.

Several people secured him until police arrived at the scene.

Emergency workers pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene and transported the female driver of the Sonata to Capital Health Center at Fuld in Trenton for treatment of trauma injuries, police said.

An investigation determined that Thatigutla was driving while intoxicated at the time of the accident and he was charged with death by auto, DWI, assault with an auto, leaving the scene of a fatal accident and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said.

He is being held by West Windsor police until his appearance in Mercer County Superior Court, police said.

The ongoing investigation is being led by the WWPD Traffic Bureau under Sgt. F. Bal, the Lead Investigator is Ptl. F. Sabatino, and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

If anyone has any other pertinent information into this incident, please contact either West Windsor Sgt. Bal or Ptl. Sabatino at (609) 799-1222.
