EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - There is an opening to serve as a Commissioner on the East Brunswick Township Redevelopment Agency.  The position has become available due to the inability of one of the Commissioners to finish his term. This unexpired position terminates in December, 2023.

There are a total of seven Commissioners on the Redevelopment Agency. Two of those members are picked from the Township Council and can change yearly. The remaining five members come from the public and each serve for staggered five-year terms. All Commissioners must reside in East Brunswick.

The Redevelopment Agency is responsible for developing and approving all improvements in areas of the township that have been designated to be “Areas in Need of Redevelopment”. As such, the Commissioners have a direct role in determining the future of the Township, says a statement issued by Mayor Brad Cohen.

Anyone who is interested in serving will be required to get certification in land use and ethics. These educational programs will be paid by the Agency. Editor's Note:  Redevelopment refers to construction at the designated areas in the Redevelopment Zone between the New Jersey Turnpike exit and Ferris Street on Route 18 South.  Moving forward, there may be more pre-planned zones of this type in East Brunswick.  Regular, new construction, such as the development at the intersection of Summerhill Road and Old Stage Road, is regulated by the East Brunswick Planning Board.
