In previous years, the event has drawn thousands to historic downtown Somerville; more than 75 exhibitors are expected, as Main Street Somerville will be transformed into a broad pedestrian boulevard.  Vehicular traffic will be detoured.

It’s a shoppers’ paradise, against a backdrop of specialty retailers and a smorgasbord of restaurants, many that offer open-air seating.

There will be live music in the entertainment area adjacent to Alfonso’s Restaurant at 99 West Main St. and a “hands on” free craft section for the children nearby.

Like a Jersey shore boardwalk or a carnival midway, Main Street will feature a variety of food vendors and food truck vendors serving gyros, chicken fingers, shish ka bob, fries, baklava, zeppolle, crab cakes, kettle corn, sausage sandwiches, cheese steaks, funnel cakes, pretzels and more.

“Because the event attracts people from throughout the state as well as New York and Pennsylvania, it’s a wonderful opportunity for residents, civic organizations and the business community to come together and promote the town, as well as enjoy the great buys, great food and great entertainment,” said Lorraine Sarra, SBPA president.

“We are a family-friendly destination. There’s no better way to spend the day than browsing up and down Main Street with friends and family,” Sarra said.

There is plenty of shoppers' parking located off of Bridge Street and West or East High Street and behind all of the stores along Main Street.

The Somerville Business and Professional Association is a private, non-profit voluntary membership organization comprised of business owners. professionals, individuals and community groups whose primary goal is to make Somerville a better place for the public and its members to conduct business.

The event is produced by JC Promotions, Inc. Call (201) 998-6311 for further information or iisit the SBPA website, or call (908) 725-1893.

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote (Random House, 1965)

The conditions under which I read In Cold Blood for the first time were pretty weird, which was another ...
