Remani attempted to make a prohibited left hand turn onto New Road by cutting through the divider, police said.

At that time, police said a 2004 Mazda 6, driven by Vladimir Martinez Torres, 27, of Trenton, was traveling on Route 1 Northbound in the left lane and had a green light to continue on Route 1.

The Chrysler struck the Mazda nearly head on, police said.

Police said a total of seven people were injured in the crash.

Tangerala a rear seat passenger in the Chrysler sedan, was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and succumbed to her injuries at 1:02 a.m. Friday, police said.

Remani and three passengers in the Chrysler sedan, along with the driver and passenger of the Mazda, were also transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital.

All were treated and released except for Bhaskar Vadali, 66, of Plano, Texas, who suffered a broken hip.

According to police, the Texas family was traveling from upstate New York and on the way to visit a relative on the east side of New Road.

The Monmouth Junction Fire Department and EMS units from the Kendall Park, Monmouth Junction, North Brunswick, and Plainsboro, along with paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital were at the scene.

The investigation, conducted by Officer Brooke Labell and Traffic Safety Officer William Merkler, is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time, police said.
