SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – An area father is very relieved this holiday after his three-year-old son revived after falling to the bottom of a pool during a party Saturday evening, police said.

Capt. Jim Ryan said that the toddler, from East Brunswick, was spending Saturday with his father, from North Brunswick, together at a party at a Route 1 residence in the area Whispering Woods Drive in the township Saturday evening.

Ryan said the toddler was on “a raft-type device” in an in ground pool at the location around 6:45 p.m. when he fell off the device and into the water, going to the bottom.

One of the more than 24 people at the party discovered the toddler after several minutes, brought him out of the pool and began CPR as officers arrived, Ryan said.

Officers George Morgan and Jared Harpster continued CPR on the child, who had turned blue from not breathing, and were able to revive him, Ryan said.

A Monmouth Junction First Aid crew and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick took the child to the hospital, where he was listed in fair condition Saturday night, Ryan said.

Chief of Police Raymond Hayducka credited the officers and the bystanders at the party for their fast response and saving the child’s life.

“This Father’s Day is a little happier because of that,” Ryan said. “This is time of year when people are gathering (for parties). Little kids have to be monitored closely.”

Ryan said that, according to witnesses, it was only a matter of minutes when the child fell off the raft and descended to the bottom of the pool.
