SPOTSWOOD, NJ - At the Spotswood Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, February 7, the board accepted a letter of resignation penned by Superintendent Dr. Scott Rocco. On Monday, February 6, Rocco was officially appointed the Superintendent of the Hamilton Township School District at a special board meeting that was packed with parents and supporters. The news of Rocco's impending departure from the Spotswood School District broke on Friday February 3. It was confirmed by an anonymous source in the district prior to the February 7 board meeting.

Rocco, who is a resident of Hamilton Township, will take over as superintendent in the Hamilton Township District on May 8. His last day in the Spotswood District will be May 5 according to a letter Rocco sent to via a mass email to parents in the district on February 8.

"At last night's meeting, the Spotswood Board of Education accepted my letter of resignation as I have accepted another superintendent position," Rocco wrote in the letter. "Although the decision to leave Spotswood is not easy, I am reassured knowing the district is in an excellent position with a solid administrative team, effective teachers, a hard-working support staff and dedicated community members who support our schools."

Rocco went on to highlight some of the accomplishments in his four-year tenure in the district, which included increased graduation rates, a reliable WiFi network in all of the district's four schools and a Google Aps for Education operating system. The BOE had voted in October of 2014 to extend Rocco's contract through June of 2019. Rocco began his tenure in the Spotswood School District on January 1, 2013 after working in Hillsborough for a little over five years as the assistant superintendent. He replaced Dr. Walter Uszenski, who resigned from the superintendent's position in June of 2012.

The Hamilton Township School District has been searching for a permanent superintendent for the last two years before inking Rocco to a contract on February 6. Terms of his contract were not disclosed at the February 6 board meeting, but will be made available to the public in the upcoming week.

At this time, the Spotswood School District does not have a replacement in the works for the superintendent position.
