EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Over the weekend, Saint Bart’s Buffalos Football & Cheer (“SBB” or “Buffalos”) 12U teams successfully advanced in their conference tournaments to move on to the American Youth Football & Cheer (“AYF”) national championships in Florida.

AYF is the largest football and cheer organization in the nation. SBB 12U Football SBB’s 12U football team successfully battled the Neptune Fliers in a 31 to 28 hard fought victory on Sunday afternoon at the Long Branch High School Stadium.

This caps off a four game playoff tournament for the Buffalos, who finished their regular season with a record of eight wins and one loss. The team defeated three number one seeded teams through the playoffs. After winning the championship game, Coach Vito Tropeano said “These kids have worked really hard since August. I’m so proud of what these kids have accomplished. Their athletic successes are rivaled only by their sportsmanship and dedication."

This is the first in the history of the SBB organization a football team has made to the national championship. Jeremy Decaro was awarded MVP of the game by AYF officials. SBB 12U is led by Head Coach Vito Tropeano and Assistant Coaches Dave Lonski, Zyad Hage, Mark Harmon, Colin Murphy, Vinnie Monaghan, Joe Decaro and Doug Schwegler. SBB 12U Cheerleading On Saturday, SBB’s 12U cheerleading squad placed third in the American Youth Cheer’s Big East Regional Cheer Championship competition held at the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, New Jersey.

The team had previously won their conference championship, earning them a slot at the Big East multi-state regional event. ”Our squad performed their hearts out. 2 We are so honored to be a part of a winning tradition that has consistently competed at a national level” said Head Coach Rose Griggs. The team’s Assistant Coach is Kisten Trzaska and the program’s coordinator is Darlene Prott, who has guided SBB’s cheer program to numerous conference championships and national titles.

SBB Continues a Tradition of Excellence Sunday’s football game filled the grandstands on the SBB side of the field with football players, cheerleaders, parents and coaches from across the organization who all showed up to support the 12U team in its quest for the championship. “Entering our 50th year, this weekend’s wins are a symbolic start to our anniversary celebration.

These teams are the embodiment of a 50 year tradition of athleticism and sportsmanship” said Jim Wendell, President of SBB, while surrounded by a large crowd of SBB’s parents and players. “I played for SBB as a kid, and have been a part of the organization both as a coach and board member for many years. This is certainly one of the best weekends in Buffalos history. These kids will remember it for the rest of their lives.”
