PLAINFIELD, NJ -  – From Bergen County in the north to Salem County in the south, a diverse coalition of Assembly members has pledged their support to Craig Coughlin to lead the General Assembly as its next speaker.

I was honored to be one of the first supporters of Assemblyman Coughlin when he first began to explore this opportunity. I have all the respect for in the world for the current speaker. We have not only forged a professional relationship, but also personal. However, it is time to move in a different direction. There is a clear indication that the votes are there for my colleague, Assemblyman Coughlin, and it is time for us to move forward as a caucus. We will have a new governor come January and we need to be prepared to work with a new administration as a united caucus.

Assemblyman Coughlin’s support is not just broad but it is deep, representing geographic and demographic diversity. As Speaker Pro Tempore and as a member who has served the General Assembly for twenty-five years under many different speakers, I am confident that Assemblyman Coughlin is the right person to lead our caucus and help lead our state in the years to come.
