EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – East Brunswick Democratic mayoral candidate Brad Cohen, Councilman Michael Spadafino and Democratic Council Candidate Sterley Stanley issued the following statement today regarding the proposed East Brunswick municipal budget:
The 2016 East Brunswick budget currently calls for an almost 7% increase in municipal taxes – an unacceptable figure that should not be adopted. After years of inaction and neglect by our elected officials, we have seen a slow and steady decline in our commercial corridors and in our municipal services.
As a result, the tax burden falls on the shoulders of East Brunswick residents, who continue to pay more and more for our services. We believe that there must be areas where we can reduce costs without limiting services.
We urge the mayor and council to roll up their sleeves and identify savings and revenues so that those who have chosen to live and raise families in East Brunswick are not driven out by drastic increases in their property tax bills.
