EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — A head-on auto accident involving two vehicles left three hospitalized early on Saturday morning.
On July 4 at approximately 5:02 a.m., East Brunswick police received calls that a vehicle was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 18 from the Old Bridge border. According to East Brunswick police, the vehicle crashed into another vehicle that was traveling going south on Route 18 in the left lane, near Hope Street in a head-on collision.
The driver and passenger in the Ford Fiesta had to be extricated by the East Brunswick Fire Department. The driver was unresponsive. They were both transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. The driver of the Honda Pilot, Jesse Ibarra, 21, of Somerset, also was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital.
Ibarra has been charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree aggravated assault and third-degree assault by auto. For the injuries sustained by the male driver, Ibarra was charged with third-degree aggravated assault and fourth-degree assault by auto.
All three who were injured in the collision were expected to survive.
