EAST BRUNSWICK – The Friends of the East Brunswick Environmental Commission will partner with the East Brunswick campus of the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School to offer its popular Freecycling Day on the campus at 112 Rues Lane on Sunday, Oct. 25.
Items may be dropped off for freecycling at the vo-tech’s parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and picked up until 2 p.m. Usable items must be offered for free. Cars should enter the school’s parking lot from Rues Lane.
Sponsored by the Friends of EBEC, Freecycling Days aim to keep unwanted household items out of landfills. It’s a treasure hunt for anyone looking for serviceable items and unusual finds – from toys and books to clothing and furniture. There is no charge to participate; it’s a “free trade” day for all.
Recommended freecycling items include furniture, clothing, shoes, bicycles, fish tanks, dishes, pots and pans, silverware, small appliances, tools, screws and nails, power tools, kitchen items, garage items, electronics and pet supplies.
Prohibited items include mattresses, televisions, computer monitors, paints, pesticides, tires, toiletries, unframed mirrors, food or hazardous materials. The Friends of EBEC reserves the right to reject items.
Volunteers are still needed to help staff the event. Information can be found at friendsebec.com/freecycling.htm
Clothing, shoes and toys left at the end of the day will be picked up by a company that distributes them for reuse elsewhere. Other items left at the end of the day, along with unusable and broken items, will be recycled by R. Mor Enterprises.
East Brunswick Freecycling Days also are sponsored by R. Mor Enterprises Inc. and the East Brunswick Recycling Center.
The Friends of EBEC is a nonprofit citizens group dedicated to local environmental education and conservation. In addition to Freecycling Days, the Friends sponsors National Moth Week, Amphibian Protection, Community Garden, Butterfly Park, Moth Nights and events that help to educate the public about the environment and sustainable practices.
