NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - With an unprecedentedly high number of families seeking help, the New Brunswick Corps of the Salvation Army is making a plea for donations of back-to-school supplies.
As result of the large number of requests, the Salvation Army this year has started a waiting list of family asking for assistance.
Among the items being sought are backpacks and calculators for high school students, pencil sharpeners and erasers, scissors, glue sticks, binders, folders, pencil cases, markers, highlighters, hand sanitizers, ear bud headphones and index cards.
The agency is also asking people to donate gift cards to Walmart, Staples, or any other store that sells school supplies.
With supplies scheduled to be distributed to student next week, the agency is ask people to drop off donations at they office at 287 Handy St. by Monday, Aug. 20.
Donations are also being accepted the Salvation Army office in City Market at 109 Church St.
