Ewing, NJ  ― Today Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman, a Member of the Select Investigative Panel of the Energy and Commerce Committee, condemned Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump for dangerous and threatening remarks made about the constitutional right to access an abortion:

“Trump’s comments today take Republican rhetoric on the right to access an abortion to a new low. It seems that almost daily we hear asinine comments that suggest that women are incapable of making their own decisions about the deeply personal issue of their health, and see new efforts to limit access to abortion. Trump would now like to add some yet-to-be-defined punishment for seeking an abortion ― acknowledging that women will go back to a time of back-alley, life-threatening procedures, and should be further penalized for seeking them.

“The incessant, demeaning, and outrageous attacks on women have to stop. The Supreme Court confirmed the right to access an abortion decades ago, and has continued to do so since. Women’s healthcare shouldn’t be about politics, it should be about giving them the best possible care.”

In an MSNBC interview today, Trump responded that, “there has to be some form of punishment, yeah,” when asked how he would handle abortion as a crime after indicating he would like to ban the procedure.
