EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - In my opinion, there is an apparent practice of the BOE for Board members to endorse incumbents during an election cycle.
While traditional, I believe it is completely out of step with the purpose of the BOE. I believe it is not about whom we need. Instead, it is about what we need.
Our district, like many others, are submerged in technology imperatives to the likes never seen. It is my observation that our current Board members have no needed in-depth knowledge regarding technology requirements as we navigate virtual learning.
That said, I am encouraged that the district has an opportunity to elect an individual with this level of expertise. The reality on the board currently is that the BOE can provide no critical oversight in an area that is fast becoming a major line item in the district.
While it is not our job to run the district, but to assure the district runs well. One candidate, Ashish Verma, appears to have the skills to fill this important need.
It’s not about incumbency. It’s about the needs for our children and our new reality. Be well. Be safe.
