EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Held scoreless and trailing at halftime, the South Brunswick football team broke things open with four touchdowns in the third quarter and went on to a 35-3 victory over East Brunswick Saturday afternoon.
Noriano Smith's 21-yard field goal in the second quarter gave East Brunswick (1-2) a 3-0 lead going into the half.
The Vikings (3-0) came out of the gate fast to start the third quarter. Vin Jairdullo scored on a 1-yard keeper and Jai Patel kicked the first of his five extra points to give South Brunswick a 7-3 lead.
Jairdullo's 40-yard TD pass to Damarion Potts extended the South Brunswick lead to 14-3. Jairdullo's second TD run of the game, again from the 1-yard line, made it 20-3 before the Patel kick.
Jairdullo completed the Vikings' scoring splurge with two more touchdown passes. He connected with Jared Lauri on a 36-yard scoring strike, then passed to Khiri Summers for a TD that covered 10 yards and capped the scoring.
Jairdullo finished with 16 completions in 25 attempts for 264 yards through the air and 32 rushing yards on nine carries. Potts was the top Viking receiver with eight catches for 123 yards.
