Leiber and Stoller wrote iconic rock ‘n’ roll music that launched the careers of Big Momma Thornton, The Drifters, Elvis Presley and others to stardom. Now their songs provide the basis for electrifying entertainment that illuminates the golden age of American culture. Nominated for 7 Tony Awards and 1 Grammy, Smokey Joe’s Café features nearly 40 songs conveying the classic themes of love won, lost and everything rock ‘n’ roll.
 

Open auditions will be held on:
Monday April 30th, 2018 at 7:00 PM
Tuesday May 1st, 2018 at 7:00 PM

Callbacks (if necessary) will be held on:
Thursday May 10th, 2018 at 7:00 PM
 

All auditions and callbacks will be held at Somerset Valley Playhouse - 689 Amwell Rd, Hillsborough, NJ.

Performance dates run September 7th through September 23rd 2018

The creative team is seeking triple threat performers of all ethnicities who read 20’s+ to fill the following roles:

Female Track 1 – Soprano – Strong Mover/Dancer
Innocent in demeanor with a bit of a wild streak. Selected songs include “Falling”, “Teach Me How To Shimmy”, and “Trouble”

Female Track 2 – Mezzo Soprano – Strong Mover/Dancer
Confident with a combination of savvy, wit, brains, and beauty. Selected songs include “Don Juan”, “Trouble”, and “Some Cats Know”

Female Track 3 – Alto – Mover
Has the throaty voice of experience. Selected songs include “I Keep Forgettin’”, “Pearl’s a Singer” and “Love Me/Don’t”

Female Track 4 – Alto – Mover
Vibrant personality with powerhouse vocals inspired by Big Momma Thornton. Selected songs include “Fool’s Fall in Love”, “Saved” and “Hound Dog”

Male Track 1 – Baritone – Strong Mover/Dancer
Easily falls in love and charming. Selected songs include “Loving You”, “On Broadway” and “Spanish Harlem”

Male Track 2 – Tenor – Strong Mover/Dancer
Smooth in sound and actions. Selected songs include “Love Me/Don’t”, “Stand By Me”, and “Love Potion Number 9”

Male Track 3 – Bass – Strong Mover/Dancer
Level-headed but knows how to have fun. Selected songs include “You’re the Boss”, “Little Egypt” and “Shoppin’ For Clothes”

Male Track 4 – Tenor – Strong Mover/Dancer
Comedic with the ability to break your heart. Selected songs include “I (Who Have Nothing)”, “Treat Me Nice” and “Shoppin’ for Clothes”

Male Track 5 – Tenor – Strong Mover/Dancer
A suave bad boy modeled after Elvis Presley. Selected songs include "Jailhouse Rock", "Teach Me How To Shimmy", and "Ruby Baby"

SPECIAL NOTES FOR AUDITIONERS: 
Walk-Ins will be seen as time permits. All auditioners must provide a current headshot/resume and properly marked sheet music, an accompanist will be provided. Prepare 32 bars of a 1950s-1960s pop song. Singing a selection from the show is encouraged. A dance/movement combination will be taught, ladies wear appropriate heels and men bring a dress shoe comfortable for dancing. A tentative rehearsal calendar will be provided upon auditioning so conflicts can be noted on the audition form.
