Knowledge is Power: What You Need to Know About Hereditary Cancer Risk

Medical and genetics experts will discuss how to determine and reduce hereditary cancer risk in a free, virtual program presented by the Monroe Township Public Library at 7 p.m.ET, Wednesday, Oct. 20.

 

Speakers will include Dr. Michael Nissenblatt, medical oncologist and clinical professor of medicine at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick; Melissa Gandhi, genetic counselor at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey; Abby Grayson, licensed professional counselor, BRCA1-positive and a “previvor;” and Scott Lanman, a volunteer with FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered).

 

This virtual program is coordinated by Sandra Lanman of East Brunswick. It will be presented via Zoom in memory of her daughter, Sheryl Lanman Nichols, who died of metastatic hereditary breast cancer in 2015 at age 34, with no known family history of breast cancer.
