The Somerset County 4-H Trainmasters will be holding their annual Spring Train show at the Ted Blum 4-H Center at 310 Milltown Road, Bridgewater, NJ on June 3 and June 4, 2017 from 10am-5pm both days. The first 20 children each day through the doors will receive a prize.

A boutique of vendors and crafters has been added to the annual Spring show for the first time! Bring your camera, as children’s author Frank McSorley, writer of The Adventures of Maggie May and Piccolo, Too! will be at the event on Saturday with his van, Maggie May to welcome guests. Frank will gladly autograph his book, available for purchase at the event, as well as guests can have pictures taken with Maggie May and Piccolo too!

Hunterdon County author Carona Davis Diop will be at the Trainmasters event on both days, as this event is the launch of her book, The Opening. Carona will be available to sign her book, which can be purchased at the event, and is now available on her website, www.caronadiop.com, through Amazon/Kindle, or at Barnes & Noble.  She was featured in the 2002 HBO/Cinemax documentary Questioning Faith and appeared on the Sally Jesse Rafael television talk show. Her love for the unknown catalyzed her creativity within the Horror/Supernatural genre. Carona's works include the independent film "Infatuation", published poetry, screenplays and a host of comedic webtv shows produced by her production company, Diop Productions.

A select group of other vendors and crafters will also be in attendance on both days, making up the boutique of about 20 vendors. The Pearlesque oysters will be available for purchase with necklace cages, as well as representatives from Beachbody, 31, Paparazzi, Origami Owl, Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, Lifestyle Creations, and Dreamcathchers, to name a few. There will also be vendors in the main train room selling train related items.

The Trainmasters’ 40-by-60-foot layout will be on display and continuously running throughout the event. Multiple trains will run across thousands of feet of track simultaneously through numerous scenery displays. The scenery represents a range of styles — each created by different members of the club, from traditional landscapes and buildings, to designs incorporating robotics, to scenery made of KNEX, LEGO, and MINECRAFT blocks. Animal, dinosaur, and military enthusiasts may also find lots to see!

The club has an expansive collection of O-scale trains, including THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE and THE POLAR EXPRESS, as well as rare and classic trains. There will be interactive play activities for younger children, as well as craft activities, and small animals to pet to keep siblings occupied. Also, a varied selection of quality pre-owned train items will be for sale.

Operation Lifesaver New Jersey will once again be in attendance on both days with important safety information to remember when around trains and train tracks. New Jersey Transit will be on-hand on Sunday with information regarding their Educational program.

Members of the 4-H Trainmasters range in age from fourth-graders to one year out of high school. The Somerset County 4-H Trainmasters Club currently has about 30 members from Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset, and Warren Counties. It was the first youth-led model railroad club in the state when it formed in 2000 with six (6) kids.

The Queen of the Big Time by Adriana Trigiani (Ballentine Books, 2005)

The Queen of the Big Time by Adriana Trigiani, a New York Times best selling author, was recommended to me by a young woman who actually came from the town of Roseto, Pennsylvania, the place where the novel is set. “The author did such a wonderful job of describing how the town actually is,” said the young lady.

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah (St. Martin's Press, 2018)

What is the “final frontier” on the Earth's surface? Many people would say Alaska, the 49th state, which was added to the United States fifty years ago.
