EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - "Bye, Bye, Birdie" will be opening at East Brunswick's Playhouse 22 on Friday. The show will run through November 24.
Bye Bye Birdie is a musical comedy better known for the film version with Dick Van Dyke, Janet Leigh and Ann Margaret. Popular songs from the show include “Put On a Happy Face”, “A Lot of Livin’ to Do”, and “Kids”.
Playhouse 22's production is directed by Bill Seesselberg, with music direction by Emily Bengels, and choreography by Kate Matseur Raymond.
“It has been an exciting experience working with so many young adults and teaching them the skills to be successful performers,” said director Seesselberg. “And this show is a perfect opportunity to present a classic show to theater-going audiences. It has been a great time working on this show!”
Playhouse 22 is East Brunswick’s Community Theater troupe is located at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center at 721 Cranbury Road. With more than 60 years of staging awarding winning shows, Playhouse 22 was recently recognized by the readers of the Home News Tribune for the 2019 “Best of the Best” Readers Choice Contest.
The show will run November 8 – 24, with performances on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. There will be an additional matinee performance on Saturday, November 23 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $22/adults and $20/seniors and students.
