Playhouse 22* will host open auditions for the musical Bye, Bye Birdie on Monday, August 12 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 14 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Sunday, August 18 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. The show dates run from November 8 - 24, 2019. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.


Auditions will be held at Playhouse 22, 721 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, NJ 08816.

A loving send-up of the early 1960s, small-town America, teenagers, and rock & roll, it remains as fresh and vibrant as ever. Teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie has been drafted, so he chooses All-American girl Kim MacAfee for a very public farewell kiss. Featuring a tuneful high-energy score, plenty of great parts for teens, and a hilarious script, BIRDIE continues to thrill audiences around the world.


Hit songs include "Put on a Happy Face," "One Last Kiss," "One Boy," "A Lot of Livin' to Do," "Kids!" and "Rosie."



Performers should be prepared to sing16 bars from a similar musical and bring piano accompaniment. Those auditioning should also be prepared to dance as part of the audition process.

Albert Peterson: (Tenor) 30's Good Dancer & Movement. Dick Van Dyke type

Rose Alvarez (Alto): mid 20s to 30's. Good dancer

Conrad Birdie (Baritone): Elvis type. Caricature, but good singer

Kim MacAfee (Soprano): Teen, older sister, respected in peer group

Mrs. Mae Peterson (Alto): Wonderful character role, ladies. 50-60

Mr. Harry MacAfee (Tenor): Good comedic role. 40-50

Mrs. Doris MacAfee (Alto): Holds the family together

Hugo Peabody (Speaking Role): Hometown boy, proud to be Kim's steady, thrown for a loop with this Conrad Birdie visit.

Ursula Merkle (Mezzo): Kim's BFF. More excitable than Kim.

Randolph MacAfee (Tenor): Kim's little brother. Strives to be relevant in the household.
