NEWARK, NJ – PSE&G has announced that the utility’s modernization project to make gas delivery to local homes safer, cleaner, and more efficient is nearing completion with Route 18 the only road still slated for gas main installation work.
While residents and travelers may experience temporary road closures in these areas, local police officers will be on hand to direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic during this time, on these roads. Residents will not lose access to their driveways at any point.
In addition to gas main replacements, PSE&G crews are also continuing service upgrade work, a process that, because of its proximity to homeowner’s property lines, requires less digging up of roads. This work is currently taking place on Brookhill Rd., Ridge Cut, Farms Road Circle, Hilltop Blvd., West Amherst St., Aldrich St., Yates Dr., Burnham Rd., 4th Street, Cleveland Ave., Harrison Ave., McKinley Ave., Orchard Ave., Lakeview Ave., Branco Pl., Ainsworth Ave., and Dunham’s Corner Rd.
The project, started in March, is part of PSE&G’s Gas System Modernization Program, and includes the replacement of nearly six miles of cast iron pipes with new, more durable, plastic pipes. Work is expected to continue through the summer.
“We are grateful for the cooperation of East Brunswick’s residents while our work crews have made these upgrades as part of PSE&G’s five-year program to replace over 800 miles of aging gas infrastructure throughout New Jersey,” Vice President of Gas Operations for PSE&G Joe Forline said. “We are proud to be a part this great community and know that the upgrades will improve reliability, reduce the possibility of leaks, and ensure the continued safety of gas service for our customers.”
Technicians are in the process of scheduling times with homeowners to connect their service to the new system on roads where main has been installed. Customers can expect to have their service interrupted for about four hours during this appointment.
