NEWARK, NJ – PSE&G has announced gas main installation work has recently been completed on Aldrich Street, Cleveland Avenue, Ainsworth Ave., Yates Drive, Harrison Ave., Burnham Rd., and McKinley Ave.

The work is part of the utility’s $8.6 million project to make gas delivery to local homes safer, cleaner, and more efficient.

PSE&G officials are committed to continuing to keep residents informed for both their safety and convenience and have advised that in the coming weeks, weather permitting, residents will continue to see gas main replacement work taking place on Merrill Ave.

As that work is completed crews have slated Racetrack Rd. and Route 18 as their next target.

While residents may experience temporary road closures, local police officers will be on hand to direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic during this time, on these roads. Residents will not lose access to their driveways at any point.

In addition to gas main replacements, PSE&G crews are also continuing service upgrade work, a process that, because of its proximity to homeowner’s property lines, requires less digging up of roads. This work is currently taking place on Harvey Circle, Quincy Ave., Laurie Drive, Green Acres Ave., Melvin Ave., Glen Court, with Brookhill Road, Lakeview Avenue, Orchard Avenue, Branco Place, W. Amherst Street, and 4th Avenue, Cleveland Ave., McKinley Ave., Aldrich St., Ainsworth Ave., Yates Drive, and Burnham Road as the next targeted areas.

The project, started in March, is part of PSE&G’s Gas System Modernization Program (GSMP), and includes the replacement of nearly six miles of cast iron pipes with new, more durable, plastic pipes. Work is expected to continue through the summer.

Technicians are in the process of scheduling times with homeowners to connect their service to the new system on the completed roads, during which time customers can expect to lose service for about four hours.
