NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - In a strange incident, a practicing attorney was taken into custody today for bringing a loaded handgun into the Middlesex County Courthouse.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Middlesex County Sheriff Mildred S. Scott announced today that an attorney from Freehold has been arrested and charged with having a loaded handgun while attempting to enter the Middlesex County Superior Courthouse.
Mark B. Jander, 29, of Freehold, has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of a weapon. Jander does not possess a permit to carry a firearm. He is an Associate Attorney for the Falcon Law Firm LLC in Oakhurst, NJ.
Jander was arrested and charged earlier today when a concealed loaded handgun was discovered by Middlesex County Sheriff’s Officers in the attorney’s briefcase as his belongings were being scanned at the security checkpoint at the courthouse. A search of his briefcase yielded the loaded fireman.
He was immediately taken into custody.
As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charge against Jander is merely an accusation and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
