EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - A local man has been apprehended by byt the East Brunswick Police Department and charged with robbery oF the Speedway Gas on Route 18.

According t a report issued by the EBPD, on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at approximately 10:45pm, patrol units were dispatched to Speedway Gas, 234 Highway 18, for a report of an armed robbery.

Upon arrival, responding units met with the complainant, who stated that the suspect, described as a male having a slim build, approximately 5'8", wearing boots, red pants, a black hooded sweatshirt, and a black mask, walked in minutes prior and approached the counter.

The male lifted his shirt revealing what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband and advised the employee to give him the money. The employee complied with the unknown male’s demand and handed the suspect the money, who then fled the area.

A search of the area by East Brunswick Police and Hillsborough Police K9 Unit proved negative for the suspect, yet evidence from the armed robbery was discovered in a remote area behind the gas station.

Subsequent investigation by Detective Crispin Farrace identified the suspect as Mohammed Alasmar, 25, of East Brunswick, NJ. Alasmar was taken into custody on March 6, 2020 and charged with Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes. Alasmar was remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center in lieu of a detention hearing.
