EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ -- The East Brunswick boys soccer team will play Hunterdon Central Friday in the quarterfinal round of the Central Jersey, Group 4 tournament in Flemington.

That matchup became a reality after the Bears prevailed in a five-round shootout, 5-4, over Middletown South in the first round on Tuesday. The score was tied, 1-1, after regulation and two 10-minute overtimes.

Zachary Ashkinadze scored the lone regulation goal for East Brunswick (13-4-3) with an assist from Zane Taha in the first half. Goalkeeping was critical for the Bears, as Ryan McSwieney saved six shots and Gabe Espada made three saves in the victory.
