NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ -- The East Brunswick football team hung on with a defensive stand late in the game for a 17-14 victory over New Brunswick Friday night.

New Brunswick had moved deep into Bears' territory in the final minute, but the East Brunswick defense stiffened inside the 10 and held onto its three-point lead as time expired.

East Brunswick (3-3) took a 17-14 lead on Max Dressner's 33-yard field goal late in the third quarter. Earlier, the Bears' touchdowns came from runs by Derrick Davis and Nori Smith in the first half, which ended in a 14-14 tie.

East Brunswick will host Hillsborough (5-2) next Friday, and then play at Perth Amboy on Nov. 1.
