EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ -- The East Brunswick football team went down battling in its first game under new head coach Andy Steinfeld.

Old Bridge defeated East Brunswick, 17-14, Friday night in the opener for both teams. Old Bridge led, 7-0, after three quarters before an eventful final period.

After Old Bridge extended its lead to 10-0, the Bears got on the board on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Zach Zebro to Derrick Davis. Old Bridge extended its lead to 17-7 on a long TD run before East Brunswick came back with a TD pass from Zebro to Brian Whitelock on a play covering 20 yards.

The two teams used to meet on Thanksgiving Day, but have moved their rivalry matchup to opening week. The 2009 East Brunswick state championship football team was honored during Friday night's opening festivities.
