Things are really heating up at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center (AHJTC) in Florham Park as the 2017 Training Camp gets underway this week.
On Monday, July 31, season ticket holders who chose to participate were invited to join NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Jets executives and Jets players in an exclusive Q & A session in the AHJTC auditorium. The hour long session was not available from Media Relations and I was unable to attend, but I'm quite sure the fans who were in attendance were thrilled to have this special experience.
Monday was also a New York Jets VIP Hospitality Day presented by Porsche and lucky season ticket holders who submitted their RSVP enjoyed lunch at the Porsche VIP tent. Afterwards, VIP's got to watch the 1st public training camp session of 2017 from the Porsche VIP bleachers. It was a blistering hot day, and Porsche was kind enough to supply state-of-the-art cooling fans all throughout the tent and bleacher area as well.
After practice, some players stayed behind and signed autographs for very appreciative fans.
New York Jets Head Coach Todd Bowles held a media conference after practice. He was asked about Matt Forte's health. Once again, on August 1st, Coach Bowles was asked about Matt Forte and he remarked, "Yes, he tweaked his hamstring so right now he's day-to-day." According to media reports Forte is still listed the same. Let's hope he gets healthy real soon.
When Bowles was asked about what he thought about Chris Harper so far, he replied, "He has great hands. He's coming in and picking up the system." Harper was originally signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent back in 2015, then signed by the 49ers and released, and recently signed by the New York Jets on May 30th of this year. I'm interested in seeing how this wide receiver does when the season starts in September.
The subject that always comes up in any Q & A with Bowles is the quarterback situation, a non-stop, year after year dilemma that is getting old. On August 1st, Bowles was asked what his thoughts were on the main criterion for the starting quarterback and he said, "There's no one main criterion. Obviously, production takes care of a lot of it - command, intelligence, toughness, vocal." On August 3rd, Bowles was asked about whether the offense looked sloppy and his answer, "I think that as a team we were sloppy."
Comforting words, right ?
Tomorrow is the Green & White Practice/Scrimmage at MetLife Stadium. This is a free event open to the public, and will offer entertainment, autographs from Jets Legends and the Jet Shop will be open as well. The Jets Rewards Portal is now open for 2017. Fireworks will be on full display after the scrimmage. Gates open at 5:30 pm and practice begins at 7. Tickets are still available online.
Go Jets !!
