MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ – A cascade of condolences is filling the Facebook page of Timothy Stoll - a Morris County corrections officer and Mount Olive resident who killed himself in the jail Sunday.

Expressions of support for the officer’s widow, Dawn Stoll, joined expressions of remorse, shock and disbelief on both Stolls page and his wife's. One woman, who said she never even met Stoll or his wife, gave her phone number. In an interview, the woman, Rachelle Williams, said she was a law enforcement officer who just wanted to help.

“I was just offering my prayers with her,” said Williams. “I don’t know her personally. I was just being a sister in blue. It can happen to anybody.”

Nobody was saying what drove the 42-year-old Stoll, a 12-year veteran of the Morris County Bureau of Corrections and a former Montville resident, to kill himself. Stoll was off-duty when he committed suicide at the jail by shooting himself in the head, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

“Although occurring in the correctional facility, the incident occurred in an isolated section of the facility where there was no inmate access,” said the prosecutor’s office today. “The county jail is secure and operating normally.”

Stoll and his wife moved to a house in Flanders in early 2015, according to Facebook posts which said the couple was married in March and showed that Stoll brought two young sons to the marriage.

“RIP Tim you are now one of Gods angels!” wrote Dawn Stoll on her husband’s Facebook page on the day he died. “God took you to (sic) soon from me. I don't know why because we were meant to be and still are. You just sent me flowers and a card how you were looking forward to growing old with me.”

Although she made a reference to her husband as “deeply hurting,” the grieving wife seemed as shocked by the suicide as did many of those who wrote on the officer’s Facebook page. A photo she posted included his dog tags which indicated he was a U.S. Marine.

“You had 2 beautiful sons, friends & family that loved you!” wrote the widow. “Never in a million years did I think I would lose you so fast and so senselessly. I'm still waiting for you to walk in that door and for someone to tell me it's all been a joke … I loved you with all my heart and I know you loved me the same.”

Indeed, Stoll had filled his Facebook page with romantic posts expressing his love for his wife and his happiness at envisioning a long life with her.

“Thank you Dawn Stoll for giving me everything I have ever wanted in life,” he wrote in April. “I am so proud and honored to have you as my wife. You are more then (sic) I could ever have hoped for. My best friend, my Love, my everything. I am looking forward to a lifetime of happiness together. Dreams do come true and I have you to thank for that.”
