EAST HANOVER, N.J.- There is an expectation when you hear the name Lavalle at a wrestling match in East Hanover. If the name is Vincenzo Lavalle, the expectation has already been exceeded. Eight years into the sport his family thrived in, Lavalle wrestled in freestyle nationals in Atlanta this summer and took the title for th4 140lb class over 12 others in his weight class. The training was tough, but he is tougher. Lavalle is the Mary Comito State Farm Athlete of the Week.
Lavalle wrestles for East Hanover Middle School, Hanover Park Youth Wrestling and Edge Wrestling, and is in line to become the top wrestler in the county in his weight class. He is currently wrestling at 147lbs. His father James, to date, is the only three-time state champion to wrestle for Hanover Park High School and Lavalle may just be the second. His two uncles, Joe and Jionni also had successful wrestling careers and train him often. Wrestling runs deep in the Lavalle family.
Make no mistake though,he works just as hard in the classroom as on the mats. Along with his teacher, Ms Domonique Scala, Lavalle prepared his bio for this article. " I stay motivated, try my best academically and strive for number one," He shared. He said training with his uncles "motivates" him.
One of Lavalles goals is to wrestle in Atlantic City in the state tournament and also in college. TAPinto will continue to follow him throughout the season.
