EAST HANOVER, NJ- The dark and quiet winter months can make it hard to stay active and involved in events around the township. For seniors, the Senior Citizen’s Center provides an array of worthwhile events and activities throughout the year that will stave off those wintertime blues.
Membership into the club is open to any resident of East Hanover over the age of 60 and requires annual dues of $10. Membership gives each senior citizen access to the club and to participate in the events. The club house is open every day from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and has the club card room open every day for the seniors to use.
The seniors gather to enjoy bowling every Friday morning at 10:00 am at Hanover lanes. All seniors are encouraged to drop in and join up. If Aerobics is more up your alley, Senior Aerobics is held on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Tom Rinaldi Recreation Center on Fifth Street from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. If dancing is more in your cards, there is Senior Line Dancing held on Thursdays from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
Bus services are available to shuttle seniors to and from the senior center on Mondays and Wednesdays and opens itself up on Thursdays for trips to the Malls and Fridays for trips to Pathmark. While limited, the bus service can even help you get to doctor’s appointments by calling to make an appointment to be picked up at your home. There is also a monthly podiatry clinic available at the center by appointment and blood pressure screenings available at the center on scheduled days from noon until 2:00pm.
The club members also have the ability to attend various trips planned by the Trip Committee. These trips can be daily, monthly, and even overnight trips to stay energized and active throughout the year. A trip to Atlantic City is typically planned for every month and is set to the third Thursday of the month.
