FLORHAM PARK, NJ- Florham Park Public Library will be ringing in the New Year by taking us back to where the country first began with the Meet George Washington: Armchair Art Tour on Sunday January 8th. Washington became the first President of the United States in 1789 and this exhibit will take you back over 220 years to examine one of America’s most iconic historic figures through the art of his day.

“Declared at his death “First in peace, first in war, and first in the hearts of his countrymen,” George Washington was revered during his own lifetime,” Armchair Art Tours said describing the event. “Through works of art often drawn from area museums, explore how his peers saw him and how his country remembered him.”

The event will be led by Dr. Michael Norris, an expert in art history with over 20 years spent at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Norris has spent much of the last two decades giving lectures around New Jersey and New York. Meet George Washington is one of four new lectures Norris has put forward along with Ancient Olympics, Meet Ben Franklin and From Saint to Santa.

Meet George Washington will begin at 2:00pm the second Sunday of January and will go until 3:30pm. The event will take place in Florham Park Public Library’s Akhoury Room. To reserve your seat for this adventure through history and art call 973-377-2694.
