FLORHAM PARK, NJ- The Florham Park PBA sponsored a Coffee with a Cop event for the citizens of Florham Park on Monday the 13th.
The McDonalds on Columbia Turnpike was filled with blue as several of Florham Park’s finest officers dedicated their Monday morning to help bridge the gap between citizen and police force in the borough.
A 2015 Gallup poll shows that the nation’s trust in its police force has fallen to its lowest in over 20 years with a confidence rating of only 52%. This number has not been helped in the nearly two years since this poll has been conducted as another Gallup poll in 2016 showed that only 41% of those asked had a Great Deal or Quite a Lot of confidence in their police force.
The Florham Park PBA advertised the event as, “No agendas or speeches, just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know the officers in your neighborhood!”
It shows an effort by the police department to make these guardians of the community more approachable and more receptive to the people they protect.
The event itself was well attended by the police force and the community alike and gives hope for more events in the future.
