EAST HANOVER, NJ- Hanover Park's senior shooting guard, Matt Winschuh, scored his career 1,000 point on senior night against Madison on Thursday, February 16th. Matt, who is a co-captain, was first team all Morris County last year and has continued his excellent play this year. He is averaging over 19 points a game this season. He scored a season high of 33 points against Summit and has scored over 20 points nine times this season.
Matt excels from the three-point range and is averaging almost four three-pointers a game. The Hornets are 8-1 at home this season and Matt loves the home court advantage the team has. The team scores 77 points a game.
Matt’s game fits very well in Head Coach Hartman's offense that looks to score off of ball movement and a defense that creates turnovers. He was happy to be part of Coach Hartman's 200th win and learned his shooting ability from his uncle who lives in Ohio and his Grandfather. Matt's favorite college team is Villanova and he was able to attend the last NCAA championship game won by Villanova.
When he is away from the court he likes to visit the Jersey shore at Mantaloking and watch Shawshank Redemtion. His basketball role model is Michael Jordan and he is not a fan of those who walk slowly in the hallways at school. He has not selected a college to attend yet, but these past few years of balancing as a student/athlete have helped to prepare him for what lies ahead. Matt is looking forward to the state games and has a dog named Milkshake.
His favorite quote is "when you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, that's when you will be successful".
