Hanover Park Boys Win on Senior Night and Girls go Undefeated in Conference Play

EAST HANOVER, NJ- Hornets Basketball is a combined 34-7 in the 2016/2017 season. The boys are now 8-1 at home after their 69-65 win over Madison on Senior Night, 2/16.

The night was special for senior Matt Winschuh who scored 26 points bringing his career total to 1020 points in the win over the Dodgers. Hanover Park also recorded a win earlier in the week over Morris Catholic 76-45 as they were led by Winschuh who tallied 25 points, along with 16 points and seven assists from Michael Bocekel. Joey Jandoli chipped in 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

The other win of the week against Mt. Lakes was for second place in the conference and the Hornets were victories 63-53. Hanover Park led 40-37 entering the fourth quarter and outscored the Lakers 23-16 to win by ten. Jandoli scored 20 pts along with 11 rebounds and Winschuh pour in 16 pts including 2 three pointers. Bocekel distributed the ball to the seniors, recording 12 assists. The senior night game was not easy as Madison led by one with one quarter to go, but once again Jandoli, Winschuh and Bocekel came through and the season record improved to 15-6.

The Lady Hornets earned convincing wins over Mt. Lakes 43-22 and Madison 52-34 to bring their season record to 19-1 and go undefeated in conference play 12-0. Coach Wear was able to play his entire roster in both games as Senior Alexa Petrozzino led Hanover Park against the Lakers with 12 points and the team had 12 steals. Senior Ava Gammo tallied 16 points and 6 assists against Madison and Kelsey Stites had 11 points and 2 of the Hornets 15 steals.

Both teams have qualified for State tournament games and both are in action vs Science Park on Monday Feb. 27.
