EAST HANOVER, NJ- Hanover Park's Golden Marching Band has been one of the best in Morris County for many years. Over the last six years that has expanded to throughout the state under the eyes of Band Director, Joe Spina, and his staff.
Putting on halftime shows at the football games and competing in numerous band competitions takes many hours of practice. Just like athletes prepare for their sports teams the band members work very hard leading up to and all throughout the season. This team effort is led by Spina who spends countless hours selecting the music arrangements that the band performs all year round.
Joe is also the Hanover Park’s Coordinator of Music and played a major role in this year’s musical "Bye Bye Birdie". He is married and has a daughter. He graduated from West Essex H.S. and attended Westchester College where he met his wife. He enjoys seeing the commitment of his band members and their dedication to the art as musicians and performers.
Besides the many awards they have received, the band recently traveled to Florida for four days and performed at Universal Studio. Spina also hopes to host a band competition at Hanover Park in the fall that will help showcase the music talents on display around New Jersey to the community.
Next time you hear your high school band, take an extra minute, listen, watch them and realize the performance you are watching took many hours of hard work by these students, Spina and the many people behind the scenes.
