EAST HANOVER, N.J.-Hanover Park art teacher Sue Apicella was  recently recognized as the  Teacher of the Year. She graduated from  Drew University and majored in Studio Art, married her high school sweetheart and has 2 children Madison (10) and Donny (7). She has a Black Belt in Isshinryu Karate from American Budo Kai where she trained for 10 years. She also illustrated a coloring book "The little Brown Scapular Coloring Book." 

Apicella sees  art as a means to connect people and teach them to love and accept one another for who they are. She is involved in many clubs at Hanover Park , Girl Up, Paws for a Cause, Teacher Liason Halos for Angels , ERASE(End Racism and Sexism Everywhere) along with assisstant girls tennis coach. Her favorite quote is from Helen Keller "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched.... they must be felt with the heart". Apicella was also awarded with the WDHA Teacher's who Rock in 2015. Next year she will be  the Art Dept. Coordinator at H P.
