Hanover Park Sports Roundup: Softball is Red Hot and Hoberman Reaches Major Lacrosse Milestone

EAST HANOVER, NJ- Amanda Hoberman a member of the girls Park Lacrosse team scored her 100th career goal in a win  over Parsippany.

Amanda, who also played on the soccer and basketball teams, is the leading scorer on this years unbeaten squad. The team is having a senior night on Friday April 28 at 6pm. The game will be played at Hanover Park High School.                                                                                                                                    H.P. ladies softball has a five game winning streak,and in the past week they have victories over Ridgefield, Mt. Lakes and Verona.  The offense has scored eight or more runs six times and is averaging 10 runs a game , while the pitching and defense has only allowed seven runs and recorded 5 shutouts.

Hanover Park beat Ridgefield 9-0 as junior Amy Petrovich was 3-4 with two doubles and 4 rbi's. Maddie McLaughlin was 2-2 and scored two runs and senior Nikkiann Giaimo rove in two runs. Jessica Miller allowed two hits and struck out 12 batters. Against conference foe Mt Lakes, H.P. started quickly, scoring 10 runs in the first and second innings to a 20-0 win. Senior Amanda Bermel went 2-2, 2 runs scored and had one RBI.

Freshman Aryana Galioto scored twice and plated two runs, along with a stolen base. Amy Petrovich drove in four runs for the second straight game and Jessica Miller had a Home Run with three rbi's. Michele Janodoli had two hits and scored twice. The Verona game played on Sat April 22 in the Carl Corino Invitational held in Belleville  was a 2-1 pitchers duel betweens the Hornets Jessica Miller and Verona's Christina Colon. Miller allowed 5 hits and had 8 K's. Hanover Park broke open a scoreless contest in the 6th , scoring  two runs on a rbi triple by Petrovich, that scored Bermel. Petrovich also  scored as Freshman Nicole Miller drove her in. Verona's only run came on a Home Run from Meghan Yeates in the bottom of the 6th.                                            H.P. baseball went 2-1 last week an improved to 7-3 for the season , along with a 4-0 conference record. The Hornets started off with a 15-2 loss to Summit   , but bounced back with a 4-2 win over Mt Lakes and a MCT victory over Kinnelon 12-7 on Sat 4/22.  Donato Casolaro had a double and a rbi vs Summit and Jake Berger drove in the other run. Hanover Park came back the next day and behind the pitching of Casolaro, 7 inning, 2 runs allowed and 8K's on 94 pitches defeated Mt. Lakes 4-2. The Hornets jumped out early scoring single runs in the first two  innings and added 2 more runs in the 3rd to  grab a 4-1 lead. Michael Christadore led the offense with 3 hits, and scored 1 run along with 1 rbi. Bailey Domimguez and Jake Berger had 2 hits each. Joe Wiznewski had a double and scored once.   The first round MCT game played at HP against Kinnelon saw the offense once again jump out early scoring 11 runs in the first two inning as they advanced to the next round with a 12-7 win. Coach Wear used three pitchers, Joey Jandoli, Bailey Dominguez and Dom Belli to secure the win. Casolaro led the offense with 2 hits, and Brendan Sardo went 2-3 , 2 runs scored and 3 rbi's.    Derek Saul also drove in 2 runs , while Tyler Scaff scored twice.

Park's Golf team coached by Todd Hartman won both their matches and there record is 3-2 .H.P. defeated West Milford 182-219 , as Joey DeMartinis shot a 44 to lead the team. Kurt Cerrato's outstanding 35 carried Park to a 171-172 win over Morris Tech in there next match.                                                                                                                                                                                                                       The Park's boys Lacrosse team split there 2 contest and have a season record of 3-5. Park's Jake Crane scored 4 goals in a loss to Boonton 18-9. Crane then scored 5 times in a win over Gill St. Bernard 9-8. Frank DeCroce and Cole Giammano scored twice and Sam Ruta stopped 15 shots in goal to secure the win .
