Hanover Park Sports Week in Review

EAST HANOVER, N.J.- Hanover Park  Junior Nick Raimo captured his second Escape to the Rock title  with a thrilling last second take down on Sunday Jan 14th to earn a 3-2 win in the 132lbs weight class.  This event held in Southampton Pa. always has some of the best wrestlers and teams from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Nick was one of seven New Jersey wrestlers to win titles. Another HP teammate Joey Olivieri a freshman took 3rd at 113lbs.                                                                                      

Hanover Park also won both  regular season matches  defeating Roxbury 36-22 and Belvidere 46-27  improving thier record to 7-1 last week. Roxbury held a 19-6 advantage after  the first 7 matches, but Hornets turned the tables on the Gaels, recording 4 straight pins beginning with Joey Olivieri at 113 lbs and ending with Nick Raimo's pin in the 1st period. Other key victories were registered by Senior Sean Conley 145lbs 7-5 and Nick Zarra 170lbs 6-4. HP again used it's strength of pinning vs Belvidere as Olivieri, Dom Merola, Dom DiFrancescantonio, Conley, Nick Corrao and Sebastian Bassolino all earned 6 pts wins.                                                                                                                  

HP girls basketball went 3-0 last week with wins over Boonton 71-21, Mt Lakes 56-25 and Sparta 39-34 last week. Junior Kelsey Stites lead the Lady Hornets in scoring each game , including 8 key free throws in the win over Sparta. Megan Macaluso also chipped in 10 rebounds vs Boonton and Mt Lakes. Hanover Park's season record stands at  7-2 and, conference record of 3-1.                                                                                           Hornets boys basketball beat Boonton 68-42, but dropped a 56-52 decision to Mt Lakes to bringing season record to 6-5 and 2-2 in conference play. Senior Michael Boeckel scored 49 points in two games and Junior Alex Malofienko had 15 points against Boonton and 10pts along with 5 assists  vs Mt Lakes.
