Hanover Park Weekend in Sports

EAST HANOVER,N.J.- Hanover Park delivered outstanding results  in the NJSIAA District 11 Tournament held in Morristown this past weekend. Led by seniors Sean Conley and Matt Liberato the Hornets earned eight individual titles and advanced eleven wrestlers to the regions, beginning February 21st in West Orange. Conley and Liberato both recorded pins , along with junior Dom DiFrancescantonio. The hornets also scored key wins from Joey Olivieri, Jake Bursese, Mike Rubin and last years state champ and the number one ranked wrestler in New Jersey at 132lbs, Nick Raimo. Hanover Park scored five wins in six matches against West Morris to take the District Eleven title.                              

The Hanover Park Lady Hornets basketball team went 3-0 last week to improve there season record to 18-5. HP beat Mt Lakes 65-41, Madison 53-18 and Lenape Valley 66-40. The Lady Hornets took control at halftime of each game and were led by Junior guard Kelsey Stites who scored 24 points against Lenape Valley and Senior Jessica Miller who dropped in six three pointers vs Mt Lakes. Forward Rachel Muller pulled down twelve rebounds in the victory over Madison. HP finishes off regular season this week and will play a home state tournament game on Tuesday February. 27th.

  The boys basketball team saw it's season record fall to 11-11 with losses against Mt. Lakes 98-94 and Madison 81-66. Senior Michael Bocekel led four Hornets in double figures with 25 points and the team made 16 three pointers, but Mt. Lakes was able to hold off a 4th quarter Hornets rally. Bocekel and Junior Alex Malofienko both scored 19 pts vs Madison, but the Dodgers were able to extend on a one point halftime lead to secure the win. The boys also finish up the regular season this week and play a state game away on February. 27th.
