Hanover Park Wrestlers Mount Impressive Comeback, Girls and Boys Basketball Cruise to Victories and Swimming Earns their Second Win


EAST HANOVER, NJ- Hanover Park’s wrestling team earned a thrilling come from behind victory over New Jersey's eighth ranked team Don Bosco Prep on Saturday, December 31st. The Hornets overcame a 33-11 deficit when they won the last five matches to earn the 35-33 win.  

With the win Hanover Park moved up to the 13th ranked team in New Jersey. Key match victories were recorded by Michael Rubin at 120lbs and Lou Raimo clinching an 11-4 win at 138lbs. The Hornets followed this up with a shutout victory over Mt. Lakes on Wednesday at home, 74-0. The Hornets earned pins from Patrick Ferreira 113lbs, Lou Raimo 138lbs, Sean Conley 145lbs, Matthew Liberato 160lbs, Rory Deluca 195lbs and Giancarlo Dellanno 285lbs.

Both the boys and girls basketball teams coasted to victories over Parsippany on Tuesday, Jan 3. The boys team used their man to man pressure defense that held Parsippany scoreless for the first four minutes of the game to earn a 34-17 lead at the half. Coach Hartman was able to play his entire varsity squad as 10 players broke into the scoring column. The Hornets were led by Joey Jandoli with 12 points and Matthew Winschuh and Eddie Fenney with 11 points. Michael Boeckel chipped in with five rebounds, eight assists and two steals. Michael Sherman pulled down eight boards as Hanover Park rose to 4-3 for the season. David Ton led Parsippany with a game high 20 points.

Hanover Park's girls basketball jumped out to a 16-0 first quarter lead and never looked back. Coach Wear's team had nine players score in the contest and as a team recorded a whopping 18 rebounds, 17 assists and an impressive 20 steals. The Hornets leading scorers were Alex Petrozzino and Kelsey Stites with 12 points, and Sarah Eveland with 10 pts. With the win the Hornets record now stands tall at 4-1.

Hanover Park's girls swimming team earned its second victory with a 92-78 victory over West Morris. The team was led by Sarah Bernstein who placed first in the 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke. Megan Healey also recorded wins in the 50m and 100m freestyles races. Bernstein and Healey also chipped in on the 200m medley relay victory.
