EAST HANOVER, N.J. - Last Thursday, Sept. 7, HomeSense, a sister store to HomeGoods, opened in East Hanover. Located on Route 10, it is the first New Jersey location.
According to Lisa Zahn, a spokesperson for HomeGoods, successful Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and HomeGoods locations in New Jersey made it easy to new open in the state.
Aug. 17 HomeSense opened in Framingham, Massachusettes . Zahn stated, “Overall, HomeSense really was born out of not having the physical space in a HomeGoods t The stores are meant to complement each other.”
There is a difference between the two stores. HomeGoods has a pet department, a kid’s department, and a larger gourmet food department, among others, while HomeSense offers more furniture, more lighting, more rugs, etc. A customer could find a leather couch, a head board for their bed, or a tub in HomeSense and take it home. It is not a showroom store so, if a customer sees something and likes it, they can take it home that day.
They still offer a treasure trove of decorative accessories for the living room, kitchen, office, etc. However, their focal point is in the front of the store in a section called the “Curated Corner”. As Zahn explained it it’s a department that will change every month or so with new designs and new themes. This month is “Tribal Vibe” with products and designs defining different tribes: African tribes, Native American tribes, to name a few.
“They’re both treasure hunt experiences, but I think HomeGoods is a little bit more about the hunt and here [at HomeSense] we’re really inspiring and more a curated vignette that we normally wouldn’t do. You’re still going to find that stuff at HomeGoods, but I think we curated it and made it a little bit more targeted here,” Zahn said as she described the store.
