EAST HANOVER, NJ- Both boys and girls teams had home wins in second round games in the North Jersey Sect. 2 Group 2 bracket on Wednesday, March 1st.

What was strange was that neither team played there usual game. The normally potent offense for the boys team was shut down by Central as they escaped with a 51-45 hard fought victory. Hanover Park, 21-6, has been averaging over 70 points a game for the season and close to 78 points at home. It was crucial that the team came up with a big game on defense to counteract their unusually low offensive output. Now they face conference rival Mt. Lakes, who they have beaten twice this year. The trio of Jandoli, Winschuh and Boeckel will need to lead the Hornets on Friday, March 3rd away from home at 7 pm.

The Lady Hornets, 23-2, also did not play their usual game as they scored their second highest point total of the season in their 68-49 win over Garfield. This came in handy as there lockdown defense allowed 19 points above their season average of 30 point per game. Senior Alexa Petrozzino led Hanover Park with 22 points including a season high six three-pointers. Petrozzino and fellow seniors Ava Gammo and Alexa Burese will try to keep Hanover Park unbeaten at home when they meet Ridgefield Park on Friday, March 3rd at 7pm.
