EAST HANOVER, NJ – On any given Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night from April through June, many gathered at Lurker Park for Bocce. Twenty-four teams entered and eight played every night for eight weeks. A champion was crowned on June 22. That was Team Prata, and, they are Precision Sports Performance team of the week.
Prata, is a father son team lead by East Hanover Police Sgt. Chris Berres, his father in law, Angelo Rega and Angelo Bagnara and his father, Mario Bagnara. The team had a 13-3 regular season record and earned a place in the play-offs and took the title after a championship final round.
Anyone could have taken the title, it was competitive and fun” said Sgt. Berres, who battled against his own as some officers had PBA teams that were in contention for the title.
Rosters are already in for the fall season. East Hanover Recreation Director Linda Lurz was surprised by the large turn out in the spring. “ It has been awhile since there was bocce at Lurker Park, we were unsure of how it would be received” Lurz said. “ We had 75 registrations before play began and more were added, we decided to do a spring season because of the huge response”
Starting in September, on any given Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night, the music will be playing, the families will be gathering and East Hanover Bocce will continue.
